Grading Policy for Music Class
Kindergarten Music Grades: Concepts and Skills/ Conduct 1 Student is unable to exhibit skill even with direct guidance. Additional instruction is needed. 2 Student exhibits skill with minimal guidance. Reinforcement needed. 3 Student exhibits skills independently and consistently. 4 Student understanding goes beyond grade level expectation. |
Grades 1-5*:
E= achievement is excellent. Student shows extra effort/work in music. Student shows mastery exceeding grade level expectations. Student makes accomplishments beyond expectation in music. Student has above-average grades on written work where appropriate. S= achievement is satisfactory. Student shows reasonable effort in music. Student satisfies 70% or more on TEKS and North East Standards. Student makes accomplishments appropriate for grade level in music. Student has average grades on written work where appropriate. N= achievement needs improvement. Student shows little or no effort in music. Student satisfies less than 70% of the TEKS and North East Standards. Student makes accomplishments below expectations for grade level in music. Student has below average grades on written work where appropriate. All students will initially receive an "S" in music and grades will be adjusted according to skill and effort exhibited in class. 80% of the music grade reflects daily participation in music class. 20% of the music grade is based upon musical skills observed in class as well as occasional written assignments as appropriate. *Grades 1-5 receive an E, S, or N, not a numeric grade.
